As Barney is preparing for his wedding, he and Ted reflect back on Punchy’s weeding. Meanwhile, Robin considers if she should tell Barney about her feelings for him. Ted contemplates upon who he should take to the Architect’s Ball. Marshall has landed his dream job but is worried that he could lose it on account of some videos that he made in the past. Marshall and Lily make a bet with Barney, which could end up forcing him to wear Marshal’s ducky tie. Ted runs into Victoria, an ex-girlfriend that he cheated on, and he tries to make amends with her. When a girl tries to ruin Barney’s relationship with Nora; Robin assaults her, and she is forced to go for therapy session that are court mandated.

Ted gets too involved in Lily’s pregnancy. When Marshall’s boss treads too lightly for his liking in making a settlement with a major company, Marshall takes things into his own hands. Ted takes his class on a field trip. When Ted refuses to gather information about a girl that he plans to date, the gang comes in to interfere. Marshall and Lily decide that they should not find out about the baby’s sex, though they are tempted to when setting up the baby’s room. A string of horrific events destroy Barney’s romantic evening with Nora. Lily has a pregnancy brain and Ted thinks that he has run into the Slutty pumpkin. As the gang reminisces about Hurricane Irene, Barney tries to get out of wearing the ducky tie by making a deal with Marshal and Lily. Kevin helps them realize that they are reminded about one of their parents through their partners. Barney and Robin hide some extremely deep secrets from each of their partners.
