Marshall Eriksen (Jason Segel)
Marshall is Ted’s best friend and Lily’s husband. He met both when they were all first years in college. Marshall is a corporate lawyer working at Goliath National Bank. He pursued a career in law because he is interested in environmental protection law. He is considered to be the idealist in the group because of his friendly manner. Marshall is a friendly giant, 6’4” feet tall but still the shortest member of his family. He was very good in games and is the slam dunk champion of Nicollet Country, Minnesota with his trademark dunk the “White Windmill”.

Marshall is portrayed to be very loyal to his friends, fascinatingly interested in paranormal happenings, specifically the Loch Ness monster. He and Lily were married in season 2 and were anxious to start a family. They constantly worry about their fertility status. Lily tells Marshall that his father died in a fatal heart attack right after they were told that they are capable of having a baby.
Jason Segel plays the role of Marshall. Jason was known for his role Nick “Freak” Andopolis in the TV series Freaks and Geeks. He appeared at several TV series such as CSI and Undeclared. He has also appeared in the films SLC Punk!, Dead Man on Campus, Slackers, Gulliver’s Travels, Despicable Me, and the Muppets.
