The possibility of Robin and Barney splitting is causing much controversy among their fans. Some really feel that the couple should stay united, even when they are not really happy, while others think that they should separate to show their individualistic qualities that singles possess. Carter Bays explains that neither Barney nor Robin want to be “tied down”.

He goes on to point out that Barney’s sweater vests and Bed and Breakfast stays are not him ;that Robin is taking his best qualities away and trying to make him into someone he isn’t. Bays feels that viewers want to see Barney as the single unattached male, thus creating an exciting and unpredictable plot. Only the future episodes will tell what issues really lay with their fate.
